Ghana design meat pies are primarily loved because of their rich shortcrust pastry and filling. In fact, most times that the wealthy pastry is more desirable than the filling. Everybody has their favorite vendor. People do actually travel at length just to purchase their favorite pie from a certain vendor. This reveals how we love our beef pies and how significant the meat pie has to be good tasting and tick all of the things. Getting the pie crust to be great is sometimes a struggle.

If you're like me that struggles with making shortcrust pastry, then this edition of my shortcrust pastry will be the item for you. It's really easy to make. For this pie pastry, I give credit to my beautiful friend, Mina. Until Mina, let me into her secret, I struggled with getting the best pie pastry all of the time. Because she showed me her model, I have never looked back. I've tried different versions but I always wind up going back to the easy and fail-proof method.

The outcome is a crumbly rich pastry that just melts in your mouth. This Christmas, give this recipe a try and friends and family will keep returning for more in the upcoming year. Enjoy.

Ingredients

Pie Pastry:

500g Plain Flour and much more for rolling

500g Vegetable Fat Spread (for baking and cooking)/ Margarine

Pinch of Nutmeg

1 Egg for cleaning

Filling:

340g Corned Beef

1/3 Cup Fresh Tomatoes, diced

Directions

Prepare the pie filling first. Warm-up a frying pan or pot and add the oil.

Add the diced tomatoes and stir fry. Season with the crushed Maggie cube. Fry for approximately 1 minute.

Add the corned beef and stir.

Add the vegetable spread into the flour.

Using the palms, incorporate the spread into the flour. When well incorporated, this will be tender and sticky dough. Fear not because this is precisely what you want.

Flour dust the rolling pin to prevent the dough from sticking on to it.

Add spoonfuls of the filling to the middle of every shape. Fold it and use a finger or fork to crimp the edges. Use the fork to make holes in addition to the pie, use any layout you prefer. The holes allow steam to emanate in the filling through baking.

Grease and flour a baking tray.

Whisk the egg and set it aside to be used as an egg wash.

Heat the oven to 200oC.

Bake the pie until it has a golden brown color on the surface. This may take approximately 20 -- 30 minutes.

Remove the pie allow it to cool down.

Serve the pie warm or cold with your preferred beverage or drink or essentially enjoy it as a snack.
