Knowledge Bank – Akakaduro (GINGER)

Ginger is, or if I say, my favorite spice of all! I really like ginger and I put in loads of it in my own cooking from seasonings for meat, fish & chicken to creating drinks, carbonated, etc.. I think so far what I have not experimented with ginger is in ice-cream and that's definitely on my list, so look out for it. Ginger has a flavor of warmth, aromatic and pungent flavor with a peppery kick into it. Ginger can be eaten fresh, powdered, dried, as ginger oil, as juice as ginger extract, in tinctures, capsules, and lozenges.

The health advantages of akakaduro are many, some of them are relieving nausea, loss of desire, morning sickness (Oh , this is my lifesaver in my first trimester with my next child), and relief from pain. In addition, it can be used as a relief for colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nausea brought on by cancer treatment, nausea brought on by HIV/AIDS therapy, nausea and vomiting after surgery, as well as loss of appetite.

Some people today pour the juice in their skin to treat burns. The oil made from ginger is occasionally applied to the skin to alleviate pain. Ginger extract is also applied to the skin to stop insect bites.

The health benefits of ginger are just numerous and it is only the reason I add loads of it in my own cooking. My spice blends are not spared from this spice, it is certainly in there! In Ghana ginger is also known as #akakaduro in the Twi dialect. What do you call it in your speech?
